DIY Umbrella Painting

Custom paint a plain umbrella using Fabric Paint! Paige, from Whimsy Darling embellished this plain red umbrella with white hearts. Just as fun would be polk-a-dots, raindrops, stripes etc. For more information on this fun design visit Paige's tutorial. Featured in PaintWorks Holiday 2013 Magazine

Inside PaintWorks Christmas Ornaments Holiday 2013 Magazine you will find quite a few designs painted on some of Stockade's Wood Pieces.

These gorgeous Maple Leaf Snowflakes by Cindy Dawson reflect scenes of a Canadian winter and favourite seasonal pastimes.

Debby Forshey-Choma has beautifully captured the peacefulness of a country landscape during a storm. These have been painted on 6" Ironing Boards.

These Stocking Kits (small & large) have been decorated with Poinsettias and Holly. Debby Forshey-Choma features a beautiful palette of burgundy, gold and teal.

Gigi Wright has embellished these Christmas Wood Bells with ribbon and cording. They would look great hanging from a tree or decorative holder

These Christmas Ornies are very sweet and feature rusty jingle bells. We think they would look lovely painted on a 3" wood circle with a 3" frame.

Find more wood shapes that can be adapted to fit other designs in PaintWorks Christmas Ornaments Holiday Issue 2013 at www.stockade.ca.

Zentangle on wood!

Let your creativity flow using a woodburner and Zentangle designs. Woodburning is easy (just like using a pen) and allows great opportunities for shading. Darker lines and subtle shading are created by altering the amount of time the burner touches the wood surface. The samples shown above show how easy it is to use regular Zentangle designs on both paper and wood (plywood shapes look great Zentangled). Walnut Hollow's Creative Woodburner is a great tool to use and you can find inspiration for Zentangle designs in Stockade's selection of books.

DIY Giant Clothespin Noteholder

Painting a giant (or small) clothespin is easy when you take it apart. Each clothespin is made up of three parts and the two wood pieces can easily be disassembled from the spring. On Ashely's blog, Caught on a Whim she has a tutorial on how to do just this and has created a beautiful photo holder worthy of any space. Check out her tutorial here and have a look around her blog for other great crafty projects.

Shown here are Stockade's large clothespins with a $5 to reference their height. Find more clothespins at www.stockade.ca.

Fuzzy Heart DIY Art for Valentine's Day

Fuzzy Heart Art is a fun and funky Valentine's craft which you can make easily with only a few supplies. Ashley from "Writing Chapter Three" created this fun art piece with hot glue, pom poms and a basswood round. Create your own colour pallet with a variety of pom poms and even a bit of glitter. We'd suggest using a 2" Nailless Hanger (lightly hammer into the back of the plaque before decorating for the easiest attachment) for easy hanging. Cute!

DIY Valentine's Day Photo Frames

Have fun creating keepsake Valentines that are sure to warm the hearts of your friends & family! These ornaments were made using only a few colours of paint and two laser cut wooden shapes. Once Valentine's Day has finished they can be tucked away for December when they can hang on a Christmas tree. Standard school photos (2 1/2" x 1 3/4") fit the centre perfectly but other photos would work well too.

Simple shading and embellishing were created using Americana Royal Fuchsia, Peony Pink and Poodleskirt Pink. Glamour Dust in Celebration Pink was applied to the entire surface of the 4" Circle of Hearts Ornament. Once the paint and varnish have dried, cut your photo to size (approximately 1 3/4" round) and attach to the centre of the ornament. Run a light bead of glue around the 2" Wooden Ring and lay over the photo. Multiple ornaments can be strung together (great for showing off grandchildren!) using jump rings or wire. Hang from a simple piece of ribbon or string and display proudly in your home.

Feature Book: Rebecca's Collections #3 by Rebecca Trimble

Rebecca's Collections Volume 3 is filled it with 24 beautiful, folk art designs. There are ports, churches, farms and landscapes painted on a variety of surfaces (including canvas and wooden boxes). Three fabulous Halloween designs with Jack the Pumpkin King and several designs with snowmen are also in this book. The charming New England nightlight project would brighten up long winter nights.
